This is a huge disease database of about 4,000 common diseases, physical disorders, medical conditions, illnesses and ailments along with some 17,500+ records of related facts. The list is organized as a to z of diseases and illnesses for quick and easy searching. Find the symptoms and signs of the illness and health issues associated with it. Know how prevalent is the disease or how can you take preventive measures. Know about the findings, medical conditions, complications, diagnosis and find the appropriate treatments that are needed.
Most common information about diseases available in this disease database are: Definition, Symptoms and Signs, Treatment, Causes, Diagnosis, Prevalence, and Complications. However, there are around 100 other facts also available and associated with the relevant diseases in the database.
Available facts about diseases in the disease database are: Appearance, Care, Case Study, Causative Organism, Causes, Characteristics, Classifications, Clinical Features, Complications, Components, Conditions, Definition, Diagnosis and Treatments, Diet, Diseases Associated, Effects, Etiology, Etymology, Findings, First Recorded Case, Frequency, Function, Genetic prevalence, Histology, Histopathology, Historical Background, Hormonal Conditions, Implications, Infection cycle, Inheritance, Location, Management, Medications, Misdiagnoses, Mortality/Morbidity, Pathology, Pathophysiology, Pediatric pointers, Presentation, Prevalence, Prevention, Prognosis, Race, Researches, Risk Factors, Symptoms and Signs, Testing, Therapy, Transmission, Types, etc. Not all facts are associated with a particular disease. Usually a relevant subset of facts (3 to 5) are associated.
The disease database comes in two formats with in the same pack: a SQL script and two TAB delimited text files. The script is ready to be run on any SQL browser or tool such as MySQL query browser. The SQL script is a set of SQL INSERT commands that will automatically create and populate the necessary tables. All you need is to load the script contents on to your tool (e.g. MySQL QueryBrowser) script window and execute.
Files with the Pack
The following one is the SQL script file which will create and populate two tables namely DISEASE and FACTS
* diseases.sql (size 7.1 MB)
* disease (header).txt (size 107 KB)
* facts (details).txt (size 5.5 MB)
All files are zipped in a 4 MB downloadable file.
The disease database contains the list of diseases and facts about diseases as a set of SQL INSERT Command statements (SQL dump). The SQL dump is a script file and can be readily executed in a MySQL or other relational database. It creates and populates following tables and fields.
Two TAB delimited text files are also available in the same pack and these are associated with the same set of tables. The text files can be imported in a database e.g. MySQL or MS Access or in Excel.
If you need data in any other format please send your requirements to firstname.lastname@example.org. We would happily assist you in data conversion. A nominal fee is applicable for the data conversion.
Table: DISEASE (header table):
* ID – Id of the disease
* A2Z – Alphabet with what the name starts
* NAME – Name of the disease, disorder, illness or ailment
Table: FACTS (detail table):
* ID – Id of the diseases
* FACTID – Id of the fact about the disease
* FACT – Name of the fact
* DESCRIPTION – Description of the fact
Data Example (SQL)
Table: DISEASE (header table):
INSERT INTO `disease` (`id`, `a2z`, `name`) VALUES (550, ‘b’, ‘Blood Pressure, High’);
INSERT INTO `disease` (`id`, `a2z`, `name`) VALUES (551, ‘b’, ‘Blood Pressure, Low’);
Table: FACTS (detail table):
INSERT INTO `facts` (`id`, `factid`, `fact`, `description`) VALUES (550, 1, ‘Definition’, ‘Blood pressure, high (high blood pressure) is characterized by an abnormally elevated amount of blood being pumped by the heart. Medically, high blood pressure is known as hypertension.’);
INSERT INTO `facts` (`id`, `factid`, `fact`, `description`) VALUES (550, 2, ‘Diagnosis’, ‘High blood pressure can be diagnosed by measuring the patient’s blood pressure with an inflatable arm cuff and a pressure-measuring gauge. In addition, the guidelines outlined by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute also help in diagnosis.’);
INSERT INTO `facts` (`id`, `factid`, `fact`, `description`) VALUES (550, 3, ‘Treatment’, ‘Treating high blood pressure treatment is crucial in avoiding potential serious and life-threatening complications. Regulating blood pressure requires lifestyle changes, particularly in one’s diet and physical activities. Medications that may be used include: thiazide diuretics, beta blockers, angiotensin, angiotensin II receptor blockers, calcium channel blockers, rennin inhibitors, alpha blockers, alpha-beta blockers, central-acting agents, and vasodilators.’);
INSERT INTO `facts` (`id`, `factid`, `fact`, `description`) VALUES (550, 4, ‘Symptoms and Signs’, ‘People with high blood pressure may have it for years without any symptoms, even if the hypertension reaches dangerous levels. However, if untreated, it may lead to potentially life-threatening complications such as heart attacks and strokes. Some patients may experience dull headaches, dizziness spells, and frequent nosebleeds.’);
INSERT INTO `facts` (`id`, `factid`, `fact`, `description`) VALUES (550, 5, ‘Causes’, ‘There is no definite cause for primary hypertension, which occurs in roughly 90 percent of cases. In 5 to 10 percent of cases, the cause is most probably an underlying condition, in which case it is known as secondary hypertension. Some conditions which can bring about hypertension are adrenal gland tumors, kidney abnormalities, certain congenital heart defects, and others. Some medications and illicit drugs are also known to increase blood pressure.’);
INSERT INTO `facts` (`id`, `factid`, `fact`, `description`) VALUES (551, 1, ‘Definition’, ‘Blood pressure, low (or low blood pressure) is the opposite of high blood pressure. Also known as hypotension, low blood pressure may not necessarily pose a health risk unless it is caused be an underlying medical condition.’);
INSERT INTO `facts` (`id`, `factid`, `fact`, `description`) VALUES (551, 2, ‘Diagnosis’, ‘Low blood pressure can usually be determined through a blood pressure gauge. To identify the underlying cause, the following diagnostic methods may be used: blood tests, electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, stress test, valsalva maneuver, and tilt-table test.’);
INSERT INTO `facts` (`id`, `factid`, `fact`, `description`) VALUES (551, 3, ‘Treatment’, ‘Low blood pressure that occurs without accompanying symptoms does not require treatment. Therapy for symptomatic cases depends on the underlying cause. Treatment is focused on the primary health problem rather than on the blood pressure itself.’);
INSERT INTO `facts` (`id`, `factid`, `fact`, `description`) VALUES (551, 4, ‘Symptoms and Signs’, ‘Most individuals with low blood pressure are actually in peak physical condition with reduced risk of cardiovascular disorders. However, extremely low blood pressure can indicate the presence of an underlying problem, particularly when low blood pressure is accompanied by the following symptoms: lightheadedness or dizziness; fainting spells; nausea; inability to concentrate; pale and clammy skin; rapid and shallow breathing; fatigue; depression; and constant thirst. Severe hypotension may deprive the brain and other vital organs of oxygen and essential nutrients, causing the body to go into shock.’);
INSERT INTO `facts` (`id`, `factid`, `fact`, `description`) VALUES (551, 5, ‘Causes’, ‘Symptomatic low blood pressure may be caused by serious underlying heart, endocrine, or neurological disorders. Pregnancy, blood loss, infections, dehydration, allergic reactions, nutritional deficiencies, and certain medications may also trigger low blood pressure.’);
Data Example (TAB delimited)
Tab delimited files are just tabular representations of the same information. The columns in the tables are as below.
DISEASE table: id, a2z, name
FACTS table: id, factid, fact, description
disease database, disorders, illnesses, medical, conditions, ailments, sickness, complications, common, physical, illness, list, health, issues, problems, sql, csv, dump
